Truck Hire FAQs
Frequently asked questions
-
Do I need a truck license for all of you RSVs?
In Australia, vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM) can be operated with a standard C-Class license, and the same applies with our RSV range. Our larger trucks require MR and in some cases HR truck licenses to operate, in line with standard regulations. License requirements for all vehicles can be found on their corresponding Hire or Sale page.
-
Where else in Australia can I get a Scully RSV?
We’re committed to offering our RSV range for Sale or Hire across Australia. We presently have locations in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne but you can contact our team to discuss delivery options for Sale or Hire elsewhere in Australia.
-
What quality control measures do you use?
We subject ourselves to stricter guidelines and quality control measures compared to our local and overseas counterparts. All manufacturing work is conducted by highly qualified tradespeople, we only use premium materials and all work is covered by a 12-24 month workmanship guarantee.
-
Why do you use different cab chassis providers?
Every vehicle in our RSV range comes standard with a HINO or Isuzu cab chassis, but we provide options from all of the major Japanese brands for those looking for a certain combination. As we are not a single brand dealer, you can be sure the advice we offer on certain brands is unbiased and drawn from long-term experience.
-
Why do you use fibreglass instead of steel for truck bodies?
Fibreglass is a superior material for truck insulation. Fibreglass offers 20-30 per cent better thermal efficiency without compromising on strength and durability. As a lighter material than steel, you can also expect to use less fuel and incur less maintenance costs as a result. All of our handcrafted truck bodies are built using a high-end fibreglass process.
-
What financing options are available?
Long-Term versus outright purchase can be a difficult decision for those acquiring a refrigerated truck. Our experienced team can provide advice on the best option for your specific circumstance. Our Hire Range is available with flexible loan terms and specifications. Scully RSV offers easy truck finance to approved applicants. Visit our finance page to learn more and start your application process.

-
Can your vehicles be used as food storage at festivals or for catering events?
Absolutely! It’s one of the most common uses of our refrigerated utes, 2 Pallet and 3 Pallet trucks. Many of our customers use our vehicles at festivals and for catering as the vehicle fridge unit can run on standby whilst the vehicle is parked. This makes it more economical and better for the environment as our customers don’t need to hire refrigerated storage containers, in addition to transporting goods.
-
Can you help advise me on what temperature the refrigeration unit should be set at?
Of course, Scully RSV has been servicing the refrigerated transport industry for over 30 years so we know what temperatures work best depending on the goods transported. We also can advise on temperature considerations when it comes to the northern part of Australia where humidity can impact temperature control, to the southern and central parts where cooler and drier conditions have their own impacts.
-
Where are Scully RSV branches located?

Our refrigerated vehicles come in many different makes and models. Your local Branch Manager can provide specific GVM and Tare per vehicle, to help customers work out their appropriate payload.
-
What do I if the refrigerated vehicle breaks down whilst I am on the road?
In the unlikely event that there is a breakdown, customers can rest assured we have National 24/7 vehicle support in place. There is a sticker on the windscreen of all refrigerated utes and trucks that has 24/7 breakdown support numbers. In the event of a vehicle breakdown, we advise our customers to ensure the electric standby unit is switched to protect the temperature control of the goods being transported.
-
If I want to extend the hire period can I do this?
Of course, just contact your Branch Manager who will be able to take care of this for you.
-
What are the benefits of having refrigeration standby units?
Quite simply – it protects your business. Every Scully RSV is fitted with the latest makes and models of refrigeration units, with standby support so the unit can run without the vehicle running. Every customer is trained on how to use this when they pick up our vehicles. Often though, we find that customers will use this for festivals, catering and other scenarios where combining food storage and transport into one solution makes sense for their needs.
-
Do your vehicles have GPS tracking?
They certainly do. All of our vehicles come with GPS tracking, providing fleet managers with data to support driver behaviour, efficient transport routing and vehicle performance.
-
Do your vehicles have temperature monitoring?
Scully RSV supports fleet managers and customers with access to ScullyLive. Powered by Inauro, our data and technology systems easily integrate with third party platforms. Customers seeking to access live temperate data on their vehicles can be set up on the Inauro platform, through their local Branch Manager.
-
If I hire a vehicle and realise I need more capacity, can I return the vehicle and increase the size?
Having the largest dedicated fleet of refrigerated vehicles in Australia means we have the scale and availability of vehicles for our customers need when they need it. We often have customers return vehicles to increase transport capacity due to seasonal demands. Simply contact your local Branch Manager who will be able to advise on the license requirements and to arrange a date and time to swap the vehicle over.
